ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Shabir Khan, a board member of the Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), known as Ufone.
According to a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s House, Khan’s resignation has been accepted.
Khan had recently been appointed by the federal government as a PTML board member. The government had also appointed many other highly experienced individuals from the private sector as board members of the various enterprises, in which the government has a crucial economic stake. Shabir Khan was nominated to the board, keeping in view his vast international experience with blue-chip multinational corporations in the various sectors, including telecom, IT, defence and finance. Well before his appointment as the PTML board member, Khan was also co-opted by the federal government to the Cabinet Committee on Restructuring, to exploit his extensive transformational modernisation, corporate turnaround and change management experience in both the public and private sectors. A statement released by the PM’s House said Shabir Khan had never been inducted as an employee of the PTML (Ufone) or any government department or institution.
