AWP KP chief escapes life bid

PESHAWAR: Shahab Khattak, provincial chief of the Awami Workers Party (AWP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, escaped an assassination bid on Monday when fires were shot at him. “I have no enmity and whatever has happened today is because we represent progressive people and we speak of peace,” Shahab told Daily Times after the attack. He said he was on his to court when he was fired at. “Three men were waiting me and one of them opened fire,” the AWP provincial president said. Shahab also actively took part in lawyer movement restoring former chief justice Chaudhry Iftikhar Muhammad after he was removed by military ruler Pervez Musharraf. “This is deplorable that you are targeted for your opinion you hold about any national issue,” Shahab said, adding that he registered a case with police.
