Scanners bought for Rs 1bn inoperative: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that scanners bought for Rs 1 billion are inoperative as they are not capable of identifying explosives.

Talking to media after visiting the fruit market where a bombing claimed 22 lives, Nisar said week and poor labourers were targeted in the explosion.

He said that the issue of terrorism could not be overcome without acquiring sophisticated technology. It is not possible for police to check each truck on the routes, he explained.

Accountability could not be done through bullet or gun, the minister added.

Nisar added the culprits would be taken to task. He said the government would announce compensation for the families of deceased and injured persons.
