NAB may seek to declare Dewan Farooqi a PO

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would request the Accountability Court-1 Islamabad today to declare Dewan Ziaur Rehman Farooqi a proclaimed offender (PO) and permit the federal watchdog to initiate proceedings against him under sections 87 and 88, well-placed sources told Daily Times on Tuesday.
The owner of Dewan Petroleum Limited (DPL), who was listed among the accused of the multi-billion Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) scam, left the country after having restraining orders from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding any adverse action against him.
According to details, a week ago, the AC-1 Islamabad issued bailable warrants for Dewan Zia, and directed the NAB to produce him before the court. In compliance of the orders of the court, a NAB team went to the residence of the DPL owner to ensure his arrest in the scam, but it was told by a gardener, Raja Muhammad Aslam, that Dewan Zia and his family members had been out of country for the past seven to eight months.
According to sources, the gardener told the NAB team that no family member of Dewan Zia was present in the house except six luxury vehicles. The NAB team recorded the statements of the gardener and two security guards, who were from a private security company, Phoenix.
The AC-1 Islamabad would take up the OGRA multi-billion scam case today and it is expected that the charges would be framed against the accused involved in corruption, misuse of authority and corrupt practices.
Similarly, the Supreme Court (SC) would take up this mega corruption case tomorrow and a surprising turn in the OGRA scam case would start as the high-ups of the federal watchdog are still not aware what exactly would surprise them, claimed the sources.
