Army to assist civil administration in polio drive

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army announced on Thursday that it would assist the civilian government in its initiative to eradicate polio.

A press release by the ISPR said a meeting was held at the GHQ to coordinate details of the polio campaign with particular emphasis on security and access to affected areas. The meeting was attended by representatives of the WHO, FATA Secretariat, Federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments.

The meeting was briefed about the current polio situation in Pakistan and challenges being faced during the eradication campaign. The forum also expressed urgency for polio eradication initiative to save future generations.

According to the ISPR, participants emphasized the need to take all necessary measures including improving the security situation to make Pakistan polio free country.
