SC orders 3G, 4G auction be held by 23rd
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered for the auction of 3G and 4G licences to be held uninterruptedly by the date fixed for it.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja, who was heading a three-judge apex court bench, passed the judgment, while hearing the Universal Service Fund (USF) case.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman Ismail Shah informed the court that the PTA was expecting at least $1.3 billion from the auction of 3G and 4G licences.
Shah further said four cellular companies had showed interest in the auction, and submitted a 15 per cent bid bond that had been deposited to the PTA accounts.
Voicing concern over the conduct of the media with regards to the auction, Shah prayed to the court that it be made certain that the media did not air fabricated content with relation to the 3G and 4G licences’ auction.
Khurram Shehzad Chughtai, an information technology expert, who filed the petition, sought a legal order for the government to complete the process of auctioning of 3G spectrum licences on an urgent basis and in a transparent manner, and to ensure early availability of the services.
