Imran Khan wants NAB to scrutinize Nawaz family assets

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan on Monday urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to launch a probe into the disclosures made in media reports based on Panama leaks in connection with the assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.

Addressing a press conference, Imran Khan accused Nawaz Sharif and his family of siphoning off funds from mega projects like Metro train and shifting the same to overseas destinations through unlawful modes of transfer.

He said it is NAB’s responsibility to investigate into fraud, thus, if the Bureau wants to protect its integrity it will have to investigate the assets of Nawaz Sharif’s family.

Imran Khan questioned as to how Nawaz Sharif’s family managed to shift the money abroad. “This was done through money laundering which is a crime,” he added.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s name has come up in an international leak along with individuals from other countries. “I am confident that those from other countries will be taken task and they will also step down from their positions,” he said, adding, unfortunately no such action will be seen here.

Imran Khan said if NAB fails to take action in this ‘fraud’ it should be closed down.

He said Mariam Nawaz categorically denied having any assets abroad while on the contrary his brother Hussain Nawaz went on record to say that she owns two overseas companies.

He said he had been raising his voice for the past 20 years that the country’s money was being stolen and transferred offshore.

“I ask Nawaz Sharif where his children got billions of rupees from,” he said, adding, all of his assets and money are in Pakistan.

He said why is it that Mariam Nawaz’s husband did not declare details of his assets.
