Punjab govt finalised plan to provide free WiFi service

LAHORE - The Punjab government has finalised the arrangements to provide Free WiFi service among the citizens and will install WIFi at 115 different places across Lahore.

In this regard, the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL).

According to details, free public WiFi will be made available at important educational institutions, hospitals, railway stations, airports, metro bus routes and bus stands among other places. While this WiFi will be free of charge for anyone, the aim is to promote information technology in provincial metropolis in first phase and then across the Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has given a go ahead for the project and Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi will be the first ones to get free public WiFi. The purpose of this programme is to promote education in the province with the help of modern technology. The free public WIFI service will provide soon in city’s 10 hospitals, 08 government departments, 12 public important parks, 17 important Markets, 20 universities and colleges, Airport, Railway Station, Bus stations, Metro Bus, and other important places.

According to sources, this free public WIFI service will start soon in Punjab Assembly, Ziala Kachry, GPO, LDA office, Airport, Railway Station, Badami Bagh Bus station, Bagh e Jinnah, Race Course Park, Model Town Park, Gulshan Iqbal Park, Hazoori Bagh, other parks, Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Children Hospital, Sir Gang Ram Hospital and other important places of the city.
