IHC to examine request for Musharraf’s arrest warrants

ISLAMABAD: Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court on Thursday observed that since Pervez Musharraf has gone abroad, the court will have to examine whether the plea for issuing his non-bailable arrest warrants was maintainable or if it has become infructuous after his departure.

Justice Amir Farooq made these observations during the hearing of Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed’s murder case. In connection with the case another application was filed seeking orders from the IHC for issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for Musharraf. During the course of hearing, the judgment of Supreme Court was produced before the bench wherein it was stated that the dismissal of government’s plea will not preclude the federation of Pakistan from passing any legal order for regulating Musharraf’s custody or restricting his movement. However, Advocate Tahir Mehmood Malik, counsel for Musharraf, requested the court to grant time for arguments after which the court adjourned the case till April 25.
