Khawaja Asif welcomes army chief’s remarks

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister and a close aide of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Muhammad Asif has welcomed army chief’s remarks about corruption and accountability saying that the government fully supports General Raheel Sharif's statement.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, the minister said army chief’s statement about accountability and elimination of corruption is correct.

“Nobody has reservations when Supreme Court Chief Justice speaks. Similarly, nobody should have objections when army chief speaks since he too is head of an institution,” the minister said while responding to a question.

He said the army is playing its role in national security and all the institutions are working within their ambit. Khawaja Asif said though level of corruption has decreased since the PML-N came into government, it still continues to exist in the country.
