What took govt so long to act against Shaukat Khanum: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan on Tuesday said he had believed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was in London for a medical treatment but now it appears he was on a different mission.

“Instead of coming clean in the wake of questions being raised over Panama Leaks, Nawaz Sharif and his servants are pointing fingers at others’ (alleged) corruption,” Imran Khan said while addressing a press conference here.

He said if the government had knowledge of Shaukat Khanum Hospital’s funds being misused, what prevented it from taking action earlier. “Nawaz Sharif is trying to blackmail me through staging protests with the help of his servants to cover up his theft,” Imran Khan alleged.

The PTI chief asked Nawaz Sharif four questions: How much money did you transfer abroad? How did you transfer it? Did you declare the money before sending it abroad? Did you pay taxes on the income earned in Pakistan?

He said instead of appreciating the best health care services being provided free of cost by Shaukat Khanum Hospital to the poor, the government started a vilification campaign against it. “This is very unfortunate,” he added.

Imran Khan compared the existing democratic rule of the Pakistan Muslim League-N with the era of ‘dictatorship’ of Pervez Musharraf. He said the latter’s performance was better than Nawaz Sharif’s existing democracy. “Your democracy only made you and your family even richer,” he added.

He said now it will be seen which party comes forward in support of PML-N, as any such move would mean that the head of that party himself is worried about catching the heat.
