No allegation on me in Panama leaks, says Nawaz
PM stresses need for independent commission for investigation*Says nation want peace and prosperity not support sit-in politics
LONDON – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday pointed out that Panama Papers did not contain anything against him but still he wants the formation of commission to bring forth the truth before the nation.
He said while speaking to the journalists in London before leaving for Pakistan. The prime minister stayed for a week in London where he underwent heart checkup. He underscored need for an independent commission for investigation.
The prime minister said that the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has briefed him about contacts made with Judges for formation of the Commission. “Thank God, I had my checkup, I’m all right now and leaving for Pakistan,” the prime minister said, to a question about his health.
Nawaz Sharif has said that the commission to probe into the Panama Papers will soon be constituted. “The commission will surely be formed, and I’m in favour of it and hope that this issue will be resolved soon, but what to do with those immature politicians who had even refused judgment of rigging commission in the past,” he said.
Regarding possibility of an inquiry commission under the chief justice, he said that the Supreme Court has already clarified that it’s not possible. “Pakistan’s development should not be hindered. The nation does not support sit-in politics, they want peace and prosperity,” he said, to another question about opposition’s pressure on him to step down.
In response to alleged irregularities in funds collected for Imran Khan’s Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital, Nawaz said all the charges should be investigated. A senior ruling party lawmaker, Danyal Aziz, had accused Imran Khan of investing SKMH funds in offshore companies. Khan denied the claim, saying that the $3 million of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust endowment fund was received back by the trust in full last year.
He said some immature politicians want to revive the same old negative politics, which had been buried in the decade of 90s. Nawaz reiterated the commitment that Pakistan will be put on the path of sustainable development and prosperity and things will continue to improve in the days to come.
