Khawaja Asif denies any threat to democracy

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence, Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said neither there is any crisis in the country nor is the democracy under any kind of threat.

“The present hue and cry in the country is due to the ineffective mechanism of accountability,” said the Defence Minister while talking to Geo News.

He stressed need for the political parties to evolve a consensus for carrying out legislation with an aim to put in place a potent mechanism of accountability.

Khawaja Asif said Panama Leaks has become a political issue which the politicians will be able to sort out in a better fashion.

He said a consensus agreement will be reached within a day or two for investigation of allegations arising out of Panama Leaks.

The Defence Minister said not a single incident of corruption came up so far during the three-year rule of the incumbent government.

In connection with the investigation of the arrested agent of India’s top intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), he said India has been involved in state-terrorism in Pakistan.

He said investigation from Kulbhushan Yadav is ongoing and that’s the reason why the Sanate was given an in-camera briefing in this regard.

“It is an established fact that India sponsors terrorism in Pakistan,” he said, adding, the arrest of Kulbhushan Yadav is a testimony to this fact. He said Pakistan had provided evidence in the past and the arrest of Kulbhushan Yadav serves as an ultimate proof.
