Gen Sharif says army to support Sindh police

Army chief vows to eliminate terrorists from every province

KARACHI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif telephoned Sindh Inspector General of Police Allah Dino Khawaja and expressed express grief over martyrdom of seven policemen in Wednesday’s attack in Karachi.

“Terrorists will be eliminated from provinces. Police will be assisted everywhere and at every level,” official quoted the army chief as saying, in his telephonic conversation. They said that Gen Sharif appreciated police’s role in the ongoing anti-criminal operation in Karachi.

Gen Sharif expressed his grief and sorrow with the heirs of martyred police personnel and he also conveyed his condolence to the families. Earlier, the policemen performing guard duties for an anti-polio campaign in the area, were killed in two separate firing incidents by eight unidentified gunmen at Disco Mor and Bangla Bazar.

– IG announces five million reward –

The Sindh IG has announced Rs 5 million rewards for the arrest of the gunmen, as well as Rs two million compensation to each of the victims’ families. IG also claimed that the attackers have been identified. Officials said police meanwhile carried out ‘targeted actions’ in different areas, including Defence and Shireen Jinnah Colony, arresting at least eight suspects including a woman in connection with the attack.

– Bajwa vows action against Chotu gang’s facilitators –

During talking to the private TV channel, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa said that the action would also be taken against facilitators of Chotu gang.
