No mention of PM’s name in Panama Papers: Pervaiz Rashid

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information, Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday said there is no mention of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers and even his family members’ names were not linked to any violation of law.

Addressing a press conference, the Information Minister said whatever reference there is about Prime Minister’s family in Panama Papers it does not point to violation of any law of the world. “Panama Papers do not label as illegal the (offshore) companies belonging to Prime Minister’s family,” he added.

He said in 2014 a commission was constituted with serving judges to probe the alleged rigging in the general elections of 2013 but its report was censured and slurred. “This was the reason the government decided to form Panama commission comprising retired judges,” he argued.

The Information Minister said even the formation of this commission was turned into a complicated thing by the attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. He said Imran Khan is wary of this commission as he himself has dirty laundry in his closet.

“Had we not have clean hands, we wouldn’t have presented ourselves for accountability,” he said.
