Donald Lu Reaffirms US Commitment to Bolster Ties with Pakistan

Washington: A high-level meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and United States State Department Assistant Secretary Donald Lu discussed Pakistan's reform agenda at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC.

The meeting between the two dignitaries was held on Wednesday on the sidelines of Minister Aurangzeb's visit to the US to conduct negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new bailout package.

During the meeting, the finance minister was accompanied by Pakistan's Ambassador Masood Khan, and the discussions explored the broadening of the tax base, streamlining of the energy sector, and privatization.

The US envoy, who was accompanied by State Department's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Horst in the meeting, reaffirmed Washington's commitment to bolster ties between the US and Pakistan.

Aurangzeb and the US official focused on upgrading economic partnerships, with emphasis on alternate energy, agriculture, climate resilience, and the tech industry.

In a separate meeting, Scott Nathan, the US International Development Finance Corporation (USIDFC) chief, said Washington has invested in Pakistan — including in clean energy, financial inclusion, and flood relief.
