Meeting suggested to make Karachi beaches safe

KARACHI: Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has initiated steps to make Karachi beach a safer place for the recreation, with the co-ordination and co-operation of concerned departments at district, provincial, and federal level and to seek support from non-government organisations.
In this connection, a meeting of all concerned departments and organisations has been convened by the commissioner Karachi at his office next Monday, to discuss and deliberate the preparation of a Future Plan on Safer Karachi Beach. The aims and objectives of the said conference are to develop the ideas and enhance the resources, capabilities and knowledge of concerned departments for the safety of beaches in more modern scientific way.
He urged that resources and information of all concerned government and non-governmental organisations are required for beach safety. He further emphasised that all concerned organisations should come under one umbrella for building a better and effective preventive strategy.
Moreover, he suggested to all concerned organisations to make presentations in the conference on the availability of resources and knowledge and present them with the help of documents, visual and graphics. The departments and organisations invited in the conference include, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Military and Cantonment Karachi, Institute of Oceanography, Sindh Coastal Development Authority, Pakistan Meteorologist Department, Provincial Disaster Management, Karachi Harbor Authority, Korangi Fish Harbour Authority, IUCN, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, Divisional Forest Officer, Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, Divisional Forest Officer, Karachi Coast Guards, Pakistan Fisher Forum, World Wide Fund for Nature.
