Dar, Nunn discuss details of PM’s visit to Germany
German envoy proposes a high-level business delegation from Pakistan in premier’s delegation

ISLAMABAD – German Ambassador Dr Cyrill Nunn called on Finance Affairs Minister Senator Ishaq Dar at the Finance Ministry on Wednesday to discuss bilateral economic relations between the two countries.

The minister informed the ambassador that the government has introduced economic reforms in Pakistan and all the economic indicators are reflecting positive trends. He said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Germany.

“As we are tested friends, there is a great possibility to learn from Germany’s experiences in areas of cooperation,” he said. He indicated that Pakistan was keen to explore new avenues for cooperation in energy, commercial and economic fields for mutual benefit of both the countries.

The ambassador appreciated economic initiatives undertaken by the government and called for strengthening trade and economic ties between the two countries. He discussed details about the prime minister’s visit to Berlin, later this year and proposed that a high-level business delegation from Pakistan should also be included for interaction with the business leaders in Germany.

Both the minister and the ambassador shared ideas of enhancing cooperation during the forthcoming secretary-level bilateral talks in Islamabad. Dr Nunn informed the minister that in order to foster economic energies, the German businessmen are launching “Pakistan Gate” in Berlin on August 24, 2014 which will provide contacts between the two countries.

He was of the view that joint forums for the promotion of ties and trade in different fields could bring healthy results and both the countries could avail more chances easily to strengthen the cordial relations among the countries and reaffirmed that Pakistan can count on Germany as its partner in development.

The minister appreciated the idea of Pakistan Gate and observed that it will provide opportunities to explore possibilities of trade. He assured the envoy that necessary steps will be taken to promote people-to-people contact and exchange of business delegations between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by senior officials of the ministry.
