LAHORE – Election Commission of Pakistan member Justice (retired) Riaz Kayani has denied Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan's allegations.

On Wednesday, he said it was biased to associate him or other members with alleged rigging. He said presiding officers and returning officers managed affairs on polling day in their respective areas and the commission members did not have any role in election process at polling stations. He said that the commission members could not interfere in the work of polling staff.

"We have an authority to hear complaints on different polling issues but we cannot take any step at our own," he said. He said it was a lie that the commission members pass any sort of directions to returning officers. He alleged that Hamid Khan was behind the baseless allegations raised by Imran Khan against him.

Responding to a question regarding Imran's allegations, he said he never conducted cases of the Sharif family in any court. He said Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh Tariq Qadri had already refuted that he knew Pervaiz Malik and he was never directed by me to concede his demands. Kayani said he was appointed as a chairman High Rise

Building Lahore by a Supreme Court bench in 2007 and resigned after being appointed as the federal law secretary while the Sharif brothers were in exile at that time.
