Undeterred by army deployment, Imran vows to move into Red Zone
ISLAMABAD: Reiterating his plan to lead a march into Islamabad’s Red Zone, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan said his party’s sit-in before the Parliament House will make people forget Egypt’s Tahrir Square.
“Promise me, if something were to happen to me, you will take revenge from Nawaz Sharif,” Imran Khan said while addressing his supporters attending the sit-in going on in the capital territory for the fifth consecutive day.
Earlier, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Tahirul Qadri also announced to move along with his marchers towards Parliament House and stage a sit-in before it.
Meanwhile, army contingents have taken positions in the Red Zone housing important government buildings including the Parliament House, Prime Minister House, President House, Supreme Court of Pakistan besides embassies of various countries.
The PTI chief strictly prohibited the protesters from entering into or occupying any building located in the Diplomatic Enclave including the Parliament House. “We will only march peacefully towards the 'illegal' Parliament House and stage a sit-in in front of it,” he said.
“We will convert the Red Zone into the Green Zone,” he pledged.
He said he has learnt that Nawaz Sharif has deployed a number of policemen, whom he called ‘Gullu Butts’, in plain clothes along the Red Zone.
Imran said in case violence took place on the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he would not let him go scot-free. “Nawaz Sharif, I will not let you go,” he snapped.
Imran Khan questioned as to why stepping into Red Zone was not allowed. “Are we terrorists, has PTI ever violated the law of the land. I am more concerned about the security of the Red Zone than anybody else,” he said.
He said the government had shut the doors on all other options for the PTI, forcing it to take to the streets.
