PM meets army chief to discuss security situation
Nawaz, Gen Sharif also discuss Indian decision to abruptly end sec-level talks

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday and discussed issues pertaining to national security.

According to reports, the meeting continued for three hours. The civil and military leaders discussed the current political turmoil and security situation due to the on-going Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) protests and threatened ‘march’ towards red zone in the capital.

The prime minister said that the government has opened political dialogue with both PAT and PTI to call off their protest rallies, but their leadership have refused to talk. The decision by Indian government not to send its external affairs secretary to Pakistan for scheduled talks was also discussed in the meeting.

The military leadership apprised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about the progress made in the ongoing 'Zarb-e-Azb' military operation in North Waziristan tribal agency.
