ISLAMABAD – After Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s announcement to enter the highly-fortified red zone, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to adopt effective strategy to minimize chances of violent confrontation.

According to reports, the prime minister has directed law enforcement personnel not to open fire on the PTI protestors. The authorities have been told to use tear gas shelling, light baton-charge and place blockades to keep the protesters at bay.

The prime minister also directed to ensure security of Diplomatic Enclave and other government buildings in the red zone. Imran had announced he would lead his supporters to march into the red zone, which houses the Supreme Court, Parliament House and prime ministerial and presidential offices.

The area has been sealed off with shipping containers and barbed wire, and is guarded by thousands of riot police and soldiers.
