ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Thursday said that nobody could forcefully take resignation from the prime minister.

“Whatever is being demanded by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has its solution in the parliament. Any attempt to siege the parliament will not succeed,” he said while talking to journalists outside the Parliament House.

He asked whether bringing baton-wielding brigade towards a parliament was democracy. “We went for a dialogue with protesting forces after the go-ahead from the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT),” he said. “We cannot allow a handful of people to held assembly hostage. The army will protect the constitution,” he said.

Saad said that supporters of Imran Khan wasted their votes. He said that the government was showing flexibility; therefore protesters must also flex their muscles too. He said that Imran Khan’s statements hurt sentiments of the nation.

The minister said all institutions were working within law and constitution. “If we compromise, no government will complete tenure in the future,” he said. Commenting over the National Assembly’s unanimous resolution for the supremacy of the constitution and democracy, Saad said that the resolution reflects the opinion of the people.

Criticizing leaders of both the protesting parties, he said the government showed willingness for the talks from very beginning and still wants to talk with the parties to end the crisis.
