PM, CM not to step down at any cost: Asif
Defence minister believes foreign powers behind Tahirul Qadri to capture Pakistan's nuclear arsenal
INP

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Thursday said that all state institutions including the Pakistan Army have assured the government to protect the constitution and its supremacy.

Talking to journalists at lobby of the Parliament House, he said there was no doubt in it that the army has assured the government over the protection of the constitution. He dismissed reports that the government may use power to disperse sit-ins staged by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) outside the parliament.

The defence minister said that both the prime minister and the chief minister of Punjab were democratically elected and would not step down at any cost. He said why should they (the prime minister and the chief minister) resign on the demand of a party which has 35 seats in the National Assembly?

To a question, he said that Tahirul Qadri who heads the Awami Tehreek was backed by certain foreign powers who want to dismantle or capture Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. “No one would be allowed to repeat the situation like Iraq and Syria in Pakistan,” he said.
