Zardari advises Nawaz not to resign as PM
Ex-president asks PM to observe maximum restraint in dealing with protests

LAHORE – During one-on-one meeting at Jati Umra, former president Asif Ali Zardari has advised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif not to tender his resignation as the chief executive of Pakistan.
During a luncheon meeting, both the leaders discuss the ongoing political stalemate caused by the protests led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in the federal capital. The sources said that the former president advised Nawaz Sharif to observe maximum restraint in dealing with the protests.
Zardari, who heads the Pakistan People’s Party as co-chairman, reached the Jati Umra residence of the prime minister in a helicopter where Nawaz Sharif personally received him at the helipad. The former president was flanked by PPP leaders Senator Raza Rabbani, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and former Interior Affairs minister Rehman Malik.
Prime Minister Nawaz was accompanied by Finance Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Railways Saad Rafique and Frontier Regions Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch. Zardari also advised the prime minister to stop strong worded statements by his ministers.
The PPP leader also proposed a high-level commission to inquire into the Model Town firing incident in Lahore, which claimed 14 lives of the PAT workers and injuries to more than 75 persons.
