Imran Khan greets nation on Afzal Khan ‘disclosures

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan Monday congratulated the nation, his party workers and supporters on the disclosures of ex-additional secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Afzal Khan.

“Afzal Khan disclosed exactly what I had been saying for the past 14 months,” he said while addressing the sit-inners of his ‘Dharna’ in front of the Parliament House located in the Red Zone of the capital city.

He termed the general elections of May 2013 as the most rigged ballot exercise in the political history of the country. “Afzal Khan disclosed the actual number of punctures was not just 35 but runs in hundreds,” he said.

He said even Justice Kayani admitted that during the last year’s elections the returning officers were not under the Election Commission.

"All we want is that the Prime Minister should resign only for the period of investigation into the rigging of elections," he said, arguing if the PM remains in his office, ‘he would buy people off and trade their conscience during the probe’.

He said when his party demanded a probe into the elections of four constituencies, the former chief justice ‘Iftikhar Chaudhry did not get them investigated’. He claimed that whenever there would be an investigation it would come out that ‘Iftikhar Chaudhry was involved in the rigging’.

He said in order to commit rigging returning officers were not put under the Election Commission.

“Nawaz Sharif, now that it (rigging) has been proved, you should agree to our demand and resign,” the PTI chief persuaded the PM.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s continuing to remain the Prime Minister of the country is no longer justified. “Nawaz Sharif should resign and hold fresh elections,” he added.
