PML-N holds road shows to express solidarity with PM
*Participants, holding banners and placards, march on roads in various cities across country; chant slogans for supremacy of law, constitution and parliamentISLAMABAD/LAHORE/KARACHI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday held a huge rally to strengthen democracy and show solidarity with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif against the anti-democratic forces.
Addressing the participants of the rally, PML-N Member National Assembly from Islamabad Tariq Chaudhry expressed support for democracy and solidarity with the PM.
“The PML-N is the largest and most popular political party in the country at the moment and it enjoys full public support,” he said and added that millions of people could be gathered on only one call of the PML-N chief.
He said the democratic forces would not allow any anti-democratic move to succeed, which otherwise could lead to further political crisis.
Dr Tariq opined that marches and sit-ins were rendering irreparable loss to the country’s economy, with the stock market witnessing negative trend due to unstable political situation.
“Sit-ins in front of the Parliament House are marring the democratic face of the country at international level which should be stopped,” he said.
The PML-N leader said the government wanted to solve the ongoing political predicament with talks.
Earlier, the rally started from Chak Shahzad and culminated at Aabpara Chowk, which was participated by a large number of people, including women and children.
The participants of the rally raised slogans supporting democracy and in favour of the PM.
In Karachi, the PML-N and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) took out rallies separately to express solidarity with democracy.
The two rallies reached Karachi Press Club simultaneously, where their leaders addressed their activists and supporters. The supporters of both parties chanted slogans in favour of democracy and their party leaderships.
Addressing the rally, Sindh PML-N President Ismail Rahu said that his party would not allow a small section of society to reject a huge mandate given by people to PML-N. Nawaz is elected after taking millions of votes and PML-N would not allow people staging sit-in in Islamabad to derail the system, he said.
Rahu said that PML-N would resist demand seeking resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and in case of any undemocratic move to remove him, PML-N would stage provide-wide protest.
Sindh PML-N General Secretary Nehal Hashmi said that rallies being taken out by PML-N and other parties in the country in support of democracy had proved that the political parties had joined hands against any undemocratic move. Support of democracy from different segments of society has shown a trend, which indicates a positive atmosphere for prosperity of democracy in the country, he said.
He said that the revolution that Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri were eyeing to bring to the country was revolution of dictatorship and the forces helping them behind the curtains should know that PMAP would strongly resist any undemocratic move in the country.
In Multan, hundreds of the PML-N took out a rally in support of democracy and the government on Sunday.
Addressing the participants, PML-N MNA Javed Ali Shah, MPAs Tahir Shabbir, Mehdi Abbas Langah and Mujahid Ali Shah said Dr Qadiri and Imran Khan wanted to destabilize democracy in the country.
In Faisalabad, the PML-N office-bearers, workers and activists held a rally.
