Pakistan, India flag meeting over recent ceasefire violations
Rangers, BSF meeting held at Pargwal area in Jammu near LoC
INPISLAMABAD – Pakistan and India on Wednesday held a flag meeting in order to discuss the latest situation and halt firing along the working boundary and the Line of Control (LoC) in the divided state of Jammu Kashmir.
The meeting was held between the Pakistan Rangers and India’s Border Security Force at the Pargwal area in Jammu near the Line of Control. The latest meeting comes just a day after directors general of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India talked on hotline and agreed to discuss steps to restore calm.
Tension between Pakistan and India has rocketed over the last few weeks due to repeated ceasefire violations by the Indian armed forces and Ministry of External Affairs of India calling off secretary-level talks with Pakistan after Pakistan’s High Commissioner Abdul Basit met Hurriyat Conference leaders from the Indian-held Jammu Kashmir in New Delhi.
Last week, National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz expressed concern over the unprovoked Indian firing on the border villages of Sialkot and some parts of Azad Jammu Kashmir, and said the issue was affecting bilateral ties and peace in the region. In Sialkot, firing by the Indian forces along the working boundary killed at least two people, including a woman, and injured four others.
