Quetta hospital blast death toll reaches 74

QUETTA: Four more persons injured in Quetta blast succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 74 in the carnage.

A suicide bomber killed at least 70 people and wounded more than 100 in an attack on mourners who had gathered at the state-run Civil Hospital on Monday.

The bomber struck as more than 100 mourners, mostly lawyers and journalists, crowded into the emergency department to accompany the body of Balochistan Bar Association President Bilal Kasi, who had been shot and killed in the city earlier in the day.

Television footage showed scenes of chaos, with panicked people fleeing through the debris as smoke filled the hospital corridors.

Earlier on Tuesday, 27 injured of the Quetta attack were brought to a Pakistan Air Force base in Karachi in a C130 aircraft.

They have been admitted at a private hospital at Stadium Road for further medical treatment. According to hospital sources six of the victims are in critical condition.

Lawyers boycotted courts and staged protests nationwide Tuesday after the horrific suicide bombing which killed 74 people including many of their colleagues.
