Legendary cricketer Hanif Mohammad laid to rest

KARACHI: Former Test cricketer, 'Little Master' Hanif Mohammad was laid to rest in the PECHS society graveyard on Friday.

His funeral prayers were offered by Mufti Taqi Usmani at Nomani Masjid, Al-Hilal society before he was buried. Hanif Mohammad had passed away on Thursday after being under treatment for cancer. His condition had deteriorated since the past few days as he was also shifted onto a ventilator.

Hanif's funeral prayers were attended by former batting great Zaheer Abbas, squash champion Jahangir Khan and Saeed Ghani.

Hanif Mohammad was one of the most prolific batsmen to have graced the game for Pakistan. He was dubbed as the 'Little Master' after he played the longest innings in Test cricket, his 970-minute 337 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1957-58.

In January 2009, Hanif Mohammad was among the three Pakistani cricketers who were part of the the inaugural batch of 55 inductees into the ICC’s Hall of Fame--the other two being Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.

Pakistan's prolific crickets including Ramiz Raja, Sikander Bakht and Mohammad Yousuf also heaped praise on Hanif Mohammad's batting prowess.
