PM's foreign trips may be to expand his business empire: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan lashed out at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his foreign trips and questioned the investment that it had brought to Pakistan.

In a series of tweets, the PTI chief assailed the PM for undertaking expensive foreign trips which did not prove to be fruitful. Imran said that Foreign Direct Investment had plummeted to less than one billion dollars in the last fiscal year.

"What have PM's overseas visits, costing taxpayers Rs 65 crores, achieved?" he questioned.

Imran stated that the falling Foreign Direct Investment was an indication that corruption scares investors away. He also stated that when the PM's own children had business interests abroad, it sent the wrong message to investors and potential businessmen.

"When rulers' families take their wealth outside instead of investing in Pak, it reflects a lack of commitment in country's development," tweeted the PTI chairman.

"Seems our PM's overseas tours may have been to expand his foreign business empire & settle awkward financial issues in wake of Panama leaks," he further tweeted. Imran Khan compared PM Nawaz's foreign trips with Modi's and claimed that the latter's trips abroad brought in billions of dollars for India.
