Ministry sets up helpline to deal with rights violations

ISLAMABAD: Helpline number ‘1099’ for legal advice on human rights violations has been set up by the Human Rights Ministry said its official on Wednesday.

The helpline has resolved 2972 eligible cases by providing legal advice and referral services to the victims of human rights violations. Out of these, 2132 callers have been provided legal advice – whereas 849 people have been referred to the relevant departments to solve their grievances.

The total number of persons who contacted the helpline for legal advice on human rights violations during 2016 is 36,431 out of which 2,972 cases were eligible.
