ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi on Wednesday sought the support of Belarus for Pakistan’s membership for Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG)

Fatemi – who is currently on an official visit to Belarus as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister – called on the Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei and Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov, said a statement from the Foreign Office.

The two sides also discussed bilateral matters. Fatemi emphasised the need for equal treatment of the applications of Pakistan and India – based on objective and non-discriminatory criteria for membership.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s application to participate in the NSG stood on solid grounds of technical experience, capability and well-established commitment to nuclear safety and security.

The special assistant assured his interlocutors that Pakistan’s export controls were fully harmonised with those of the NSG, Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and Australia Group.
