Human rights not important in Pakistan: Asma Jehangir

LAHORE: Swedish human rights award winning activist and lawyer Asma Jehangir on Saturday said that human rights were not important in Pakistan which is faced with a challenge to consolidate democracy.

According to a statement issued here, Asma Jehangir said only democratic system can stem the ‘culture of oppression’, adding that people’s voice is only heard in a democratic dispensation.

She went on to say that dictators never hold actual power.

Asma Jehangir hoped that even if her struggle did not meet immediate success, it doesn’t mean that it would go in vain.
