ISLAMABAD – Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan wanted to push Pakistan towards civil war by creating conflict among the masses.

Talking to journalists after addressing a seminar titled "Poverty, Consumption, Food security and Nutrition in Pakistan", organised by the Planning Commission of Pakistan, he said that the PTI chairman was promoting politics of agitation in order to become the prime minister overnight. He said that the PTI leadership was ready for negotiations with the government to settle all political issues but its head refused come to the negotiating table.

"PTI head has no confidence in any of the local institution and thinks that the whole political leadership was corrupt, dishonest and traitor and only he (Imran) is the honest and pious leader of Pakistan," he added. Ahsan said that the government was ready to resume dialogue with the PTI and has been sending messages everyday but its head refused to negotiate with the government to fulfill his one point agenda of defeating the government and its development policies.

He said that the government was determined to take forward the negotiation process for settling all political issues whereas the PTI chief who was a part of this system was making efforts to sabotage it. The minister said that Imran’s plan A, B, C and D was only based on becoming the prime minister overnight by moving a magical stick which was not possible.

He said that for becoming the prime minister, it was essential to serve the people adding that the PTI head was conspiring against the mandate of the Punjab government. He said that the government has started Metro-Bus Projects from its internal resources to facilitate the people but the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started the project in Peshawar with foreign loan.

Ahsan said that the PTI call for closing commercial hubs of Pakistan including Faisalabad, Lahore and Karachi was not in favor of the country and it would damage the economy as about 80 per cent domestic exports proceeds came from these cities. He said that government was working on the development agenda to overcome mal-nutrition in Pakistan where about 44 per cent children were facing mal-nutrition challenges.

He said that the government was working on multi-dimension to overcome future challenges of water, energy and food security to tackle increasing demand. He said that such conferences would help the government in formulating appropriate policies to create food safety and security and accessibility to food.
