Identity of armed man captured in media footage still unknown: Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD – Punjab former Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday said identity of the armed man, captured in media footage waving a pistol and firing at political activists in Faisalabad, was still unknown.

The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in collaboration with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) were making efforts to trace his name and address, he said talking to a news channel. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) I had registered a First Information Report (FIR) of the killing of its worker Haq Nawaz, shot dead in Faisalabad unrest caused by the PTI on December 8, against Imtiaz son of Siraj, involving local leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).

“Police arrested the nominated accused but he is not matching with the armed man repeatedly shown by news channels in their footage,” Sanaullah said. He said that the PTI leaders were of the view that they themselves saw the accused opening fire as a result of which Haqnawaz died, questioning that who was the person captured in the footage. He said that the police should have arrested the armed man on the spot, making it clear that he and his family has no connection with the accused.

To a question, the former minister said shops, schools, business centers and transport were functioning as per routine in Faisalabad rejecting the PTI's shutdown call under its announced plan 'C'. At 11:00am on December 8, the entire city was open in routine but the PTI activists got furious after seeing their plan flopping and started violent protests, he said. He said that the provincial government showed maximum patience and restraint to deal with violent the PTI activists.
