Court accepts federation’s extension plea over Musharraf treason case

ISLAMABAD - Special Court on Tuesday allotted time to the federal government till January 7 to implement November 21 court’s order regarding the former president Pervez Musharraf’s treason case.
A two-member bench presided by Justice Tahira Safdar heard the treason case of Musharraf in which prosecutor Akram Sheikh said that federation is carefully reviewing the court’s order whereas legal experts have also been consulted.
Justice Tahira inquired that will the action be taken on court’s order in one week? Answering to which, prosecutor stated that “federation knows better about the decision and the time span”. Justice Tahira further remarked that “you are representing federal government?, on which, prosecutor Akram expressed that the federation will need more than two weeks to decide whether to challenge court’s decision or to accept it.
The special court then adjourned the case hearing till January 8 by accepting the request of federal government to extend the time till January 7. Earlier, the special court partially approved the request for the trial of co-accused in Musharraf treason case and has also ordered to re-record the statements of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former law minister Zahid Hamid and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar.
