INP

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said fresh elections would be inevitable if the Judicial Commission established rigging. He also said that they admitted elections for the sake of Pakistan but not rigging.

Addressing Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Imran said no system is better than democracy adding that Pakistan still remains devoid of genuine democracy and current moment of time is decisive for democracy. He further said that two significant features of democracy are meritocracy and accountability. Prevalence of merit promotes talent and brings it forward whereas accountability can hold leaders answerable to the law and ensure that they are not above the law.

He said unaccountability proved to be detrimental to institutions Imran emphasized to ensure rule of law before elections to restrain criminal elements from benefiting from the system adding that one takes it to roads when institutions fail to give justice. He further referred to Indian democracy stating that Indian election commissioner conducted transparent elections that led that country to move forward with free media and free judiciary.

Judges should be selected on merit. All political parties admit to rigging including the ones who won then why all the hassle about our demand of recounting in just four constituencies, he said. The PTI chairman offered to conduct recounting in any constituency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, if so desired.

He said that the demand to recount votes in only four constituencies was just in the wake of Pakistan’s critical situation adding that he demanded the same in his first address in the National Assembly, at the Supreme Court, in the election tribunal to this date. He said that there would be no transparent, free and fair elections in the future if those who indulged in rigging were not punished. He said that if there was no rigging in NA-122, then why Ayaz Sadiq was seeking stay orders.

He said that it is not the issue of Imran but of the future of Pakistan. He further stated that he was a part of lawyer’s movement for free judiciary and has always protested against elements aiming to snub free media. Which law prohibits to chant “Go Nawaz Go,” he questioned. Imran lamented Haq Nawaz’s death stating that he was son of soil and his sacrifice would not go in vain.
