ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said that Pakistan is keen to enhance relations with Sudan particularly in trade, economic and defence sectors.

Talking to the Ambassador of Sudan in Pakistan Alshafie Ahmed Mohamed, who paid a farewell call on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sudan and wishes to consolidate it further. Both countries should continue exploring mutual avenues to further increase the volume of trade. The existing bilateral trade volume of $46.47 million was far below the potential, the president noted.

He expressed commitment for furthering bilateral collaboration in diverse fields to the mutual benefits of the people of both the countries.

He also conveyed his good wishes to the President Omar al-Bashir and the Sudanese leadership. President Mamnoon Hussain conveyed his thanks to the Sudan’s president extending invitation to visit Sudan and expressed hope to visit Sudan at the earliest possible convenience. The president appreciated the ambassadorial services of Alshafie in bringing Pakistan and Sudan further closer.

He wished the outgoing envoy goodluck and success in his future life and assignments. Alshafie thanked the president and the Government of Pakistan for the support extended during his stay as ambassador in Pakistan.
