PTI to put off plan for countrywide ‘shutdown’ if commission formed
*Imran says people will have to make one-day sacrifice in Lahore to achieve the goal of new Pakistan * PTI wants nothing but audit of last general election

ISLAMABAD/MIANWALI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced that his party would put off its plan to observe a countrywide protest if the government formed a judicial commission to investigate the May 2013 general elections. Addressing a press conference after party’s emergency meeting at Bani Gala on Sunday, Khan apologized in advance to the people and traders of Lahore for his party’s Monday protest. “People will have to make one-day sacrifice to realize the goal of naya Pakistan. There can be no prosperity and genuine democracy without protecting the sanctity of votes,” he said. He warned that PTI would give a befitting reply if “Rana Sanaullah-like Gullos” were unleashed on demonstrators in Lahore.

“We want nothing but audit of the last general elections. Four constituencies will not make me a prime minister,” he said. “What I want is the accountability of elections so that next polls could be free and fair,” he explained. The PTI chief said that there would be no use of contesting elections if those involved in rigging escaped unpunished. Imran Khan has said that degradation and ignorance of merit in Pakistan was destroying the country and eroding future of its potential youth.

Addressing a convocation ceremony at Namal College in Mianwali, he regretted that “we have a system where talented people are discarded. Affluent people are only given chances here, while those with intelligent minds are written off completely”. He said: “I am waging a jihad against oppression. I want to wake up nation and stand them for their rights. Politics is a mission, and education youth about politics is my passion.”
