PESHAWAR: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday reiterated his stance that the government was fully committed to efface the menace of terrorism from the country with effective legal and security measures.

He expressed these views during his visit to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where he inquired about the health of students injured in Tuesday's (December 16) terrorist attack.

Appreciating the courage of the injured students, the president advised them to pursue highest ideals of education and morality through constant struggle and sincerity and said that they would have to perform miracles for the country and Islam in future. He expressed his satisfaction over the treatment and medical facilities provided to them.

The president also held a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Khan. He was briefed over the law and order situation in the province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Later, talking to the media, Mamnoon expressed deep grief and sorrow over the Peshawar tragedy and said that such issues generally gave new aspirations and spirits to a nation in order to tackle all ills and evils with firm determination.

"The whole nation is ready to remove this menace forever and to target its grass roots. As a result of such incident, the whole nation is united and the few among them with feelings, that these elements could be persuaded, have also changed their opinion," he added.

The president said that the government was working on a number of pieces of legislation to provide security to the witnesses in such cases, besides the mechanism for expeditious proceedings and swift disposal of cases, adding that the whole world had also recognised that "Pakistan was greatly affected by terrorism".

He underscored the importance of the operation Zarb-e-Azb, saying it was launched to end the scourge of terrorism from the country and assured the nation that all efforts would be made to purge the country of terrorism and terrorists.

"The Afghan President has also expressed his strong commitment for close cooperation with Pakistan over the issue of terrorism," he added.
