Imran stands by govt to fight terrorism

PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has stressed that the war against terrorism is difficult but can be won if the nation is united.

He said by setting aside political differences, they were with the government to deal with terrorism. Talking to journalists here, The PTI chief said that the nation had decided to fight terrorism and demanded the Frontier Constabulary (FC) be allowed to play its true role.

Imran said that the FC was responsible for guarding the border between Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) and the province and should resume this duty. “The police cannot bear this additional burden,” he added. According to Imran, it was unrealistic to expect the police to fight terrorism.

The PTI chairman also called for the Pak-Afghan border to be controlled as 15,000-20,000 people were crossing it daily. “There are only 500 visas issued at the border,” he said. He said that terrorism could not be stopped without controlling movement at the Torkam border.

He also called on the federal government to help the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over the issue of the displaced persons and Afghan refugees. He demanded repatriation of half a million Afghan refugees and financial assistance by the federal government to the KP government for the displaced persons.

Imran stressed the need for ending the reasons behind the menace of terrorism and demanded provision of necessary facilities to the people of FATA warning that if this was not done, the youth would continue to be attracted by militants.

The PTI chief said that all the unregistered SIMs should immediately blocked and those issued in fake names should be declared illegal. He suggested a special mobile system for the security of KP schools so that by pressing a button, the police could reach the school seeking assistance.

He said that he didn’t want to take political advantage from the present situation saying he accepted elections but not rigging. He said that terrorism was a national problem and despite political differences, the PTI was standing with the government to address terrorism.

Imran said that the war against terrorisms was difficult but not impossible. “If Pakistan is united, it could be won” he emphasized. He said that he was highly pained when he met the mothers of martyred students and was highly grieved over the Peshawar tragedy.

KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak demanded that the provincial government be provided funds for the repatriation of Afghan refugees. Imran arrived in Peshawar on Monday chaired a meeting at Chief Minister’s House during which he was briefed about measures needed for ending terrorism and about the Peshawar tragedy investigations.

He visited the Army Public School along with KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and the provincial cabinet ministers. Imran and Pervaiz saw different parts of the school and later visited the homes of the martyred children to meet and condole with their parents.

The PTI leader prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and asked the parents of the unfortunate children to be strong and patient. Imran also visited the residence of martyred principal of army public school, offered Fateha and condoled with the bereaved family.
