Steps being taken to eliminate terrorists: Asif

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that Pakistan Army and other security institutions were taking important steps to eliminate terrorists and foil the nefarious designs of anti-social elements.

He said strict action would be taken against facilitators and abettors of the terrorists. Talking to a private news channel, he expressed the apprehension of more terror attacks in the wake of hanging of convicted militants. He, however, added that the security institutions had taken measures to counter the terrorist plans. To a question about joint working of Afghanistan and Pakistan, he said there was need to work together to uproot terrorism from the region. Peace and stability in Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan.

To another query regarding Army Chief’s visit to Afghanistan, he said positive results of the COAS meeting with Afghan leadership would be surfaced soon. The minister said that all the political parties were united on the issue of eliminating terrorism from the country. Khawaja Asif said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government was focusing on energy projects and good governance. Replying to a question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan had taken a decision to call off the sit-in.
