AJK PM orders completion of abandoned projects


Farooq Haider says people would never forget Pakistan’s invaluable cooperation after devastating earthquake

MIRPUR: Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan restated his government’s resolve to complete the stranded projects of the reconstruction program in earthquake hit areas of AJK.

He directed the authorities to complete the construction of the educational institutions in the earthquake hit zone. Farooq Haider was briefed on the reconstruction program by ERRA deputy chairman on Monday. He said that the federal government would be asked to provide the required funds for the completion of all ongoing development projects in the earthquake-hit Muzaffarabad and other districts of AJK.

Farooq Haider, while addressing the meeting, said that the people would never forget the invaluable cooperation and sympathies extended by the people of Pakistan after the devastating earthquake in 2005. He also said that hundreds of hospitals and educational institutions were destroyed in deadly earthquake.

The ERRA authorities told the meeting that they were not provided with the required funds which caused problems. They informed the meeting that under ERRA’s supervision, 7,743 projects were designed, out of which 5,237 projects were completed and handed over to the departments concerned.
