PPP ‘disowns’ Uzair Baloch
* Qaim says Sindh government itself was taking action against such criminals * Khursheed says accused was wanted in several cases and hence has been arrested
OnlineMULTAN/SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Sunday that Pakistan People Party (PPP) had no link with Uzair Baloch, as the provincial government itself was taking action against such criminals.
Talking to media persons at local airport and Gilani House here, the chief minister alleged that Zulfiqar Mirza and Uzair Baloch were friends and they used to meet each other.
Sindh Rangers on Saturday had claimed to have arrested leader of the Lyari gang war and chief of proscribed Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) Uzair Baloch in a targeted operation on the outskirts of Karachi.
Rangers arrested Baloch in a targeted operation outside Karachi late on Friday while he was attempting to enter the city, said a press release issued by the paramilitary force. The press release also claimed the recovery of weapons from Baloch.
The chief minister said the Sindh government wanted to eradicate the menace of terrorism as early as possible. He claimed that situation in Sindh was improving now. He also hailed Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for holding meeting with him (chief minister Sindh) whenever he visited Sindh.
To another query about corruption in Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Anti-Corruption department were present to eradicate this menace.
Dispelling the impression, he said that there was no confrontation between the federal government and the Sindh government. However, there were some reservations which had been conveyed to the federal government, he added.
The provinces should be devolved powers completely under the 18th Amendment, he said, and added that they could generate electricity themselves if Sindh was given its due share in accordance with the NFC award.
Earlier, Qaim Ali Shah visited the Gilani House and expressed condolence with ex-prime minister and PPP central leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on the death of his nephew and ex-MNA Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani who had passed away in a stampede while performing Haj.
Separately, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) central leader and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah denied any link of his party with Lyari gang war criminal Uzair Baloch, saying the accused was wanted in several cases and hence has been arrested.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, Khurshid Shah said that several people snap photographs with political leaders and it can’t be instantly judged as to who was a criminal and who not.
Regarding schools dilemma in Punjab, Shah called upon MNAs and MPAs of the province to curtail their own security and deploy them outside schools facing serious threats.
