Judicial commission sought to probe APS tragedy

PESHAWAR: Participants and parents of the martyr students of the Army Public School (APS) at a seminar on Tuesday urged the government to constitute a judicial commission to probe the tragedy and punish the officials concerned for failure to protect the school.

They also decided to file a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) for holding a judicial inquiry into the tragedy if the government didn’t accept their demand.The APS Shuhada Forum in collaboration with the Legal Research Institute of Pakistan (LRIP) had organised the seminar titled ‘A Talk on Threats of Terrorism to our children and Educational Institutions’ at the Peshawar Press Club.

Chairman of LRIP, Muazzam Butt, provincial President of PML-Quaid Intikhab Khan Chamkani, a former deputy speaker provincial assembly, Ikramullah Shahid, president of APS Shuhada Forum Abid Raza Bangash, mother of a martyred student Asfandyar, a former MPA Dr Zakir Shah and others spoke on the occasion.

Abid Raza said the parents of the martyred students always demanded the government to form a judicial commission but the demand fell on deaf ears. Dr Zakir Shah said it was the responsibility of the government and security institutions to provide security to the people and educational institutions.
