President calls for addressing problems of SMEs

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday called for addressing the issues of small and medium industries and urged upon chambers of commerce and industry to play a constructive role for resolving their problems.

He emphasised that measures should be taken to increase the country’s exports and hoped that traders and industrialists can bolster exports manifold.

Talking to a delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by its President Mian Humayun Parvez here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president stated that the government was providing all possible incentives to traders and industrialists for further enhancing exports.

He maintained that the chambers of commerce and industry should strive to further jack up exports through coordinated marketing efforts in liaison with the foreign missions in Pakistan. Mamnoon said that it was the responsibility of business community to unmask the tax evaders from within their ranks.

RCCI President Humayun Parvez lauded the economic policies of the government and expressed his support for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects for progress and prosperity in the country.

He said that the metro bus project has provided modern and comfortable transport facilities to the public. He also thanked the president for taking keen interest in resolving the issues of business community.

Separately, a delegation of Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital headed by Lieutenant General (r) Hamid Javaid also called on the president at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Talking to the delegation, the president lauded the services of the hospital and also recalled his cherished meetings with the late founder of the institution Lt Gen (r) Jahandad.

He laid emphasis on providing additional services in the Sukkur branch of Al-Shifa hospital and called upon the doctors to serve the humanity in far-flung areas as well.

Hamid Javaid apprised the president that each year 300,000 children were suffering from blindness in the country and for their treatment Al-Shifa Eye Trust was constructing a separate hospital, which will be the first for the children in the region.

He also extended an invitation to President Mamnoon to inaugurate the hospital which was accepted by the president.
