Military court convict cannot be pardoned: SC
Online

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ordered the Sheikhupura jail officials and Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch to exceed the legal proceedings as per the law in the reconciliation case of Lance Naik Mukarram Hussain, who was convicted by a military court. The court has demanded a reply by March 2. A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case. During the hearing, the head of the three-judge bench, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, asked since Hussain was convicted by a military court how could this court pardon him. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, a member of the bench, said that JAG should tell whether the convict be pardoned on the bases of reconciliation or not. Hussain’s father told the apex court that “we had informed the military unit in which army personnel were assassinated about reconciliation”. The military unit had written a letter to the authorities of Sheikhupura jail. He presented a copy of the letter to the court.
