JAC resumes flight operations for Umrah pilgrims
PIA spokesman claims flight operation returning to normalcy
KARACHI/LAHORE/ISLAMABAD – The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) partially restored flight operations as protest against the proposed privatisation of the airlines continued on Monday, private TV channel reported.
Talking to journalists, JAC head Sohail Baloch said that some 275 Umrah pilgrims are stranded at the airport and it is decided unanimously to resume flight operation for the pilgrims while keeping in view the problems being faced by them.
He said that the PIA staffers would resume their duties for departure of the pilgrims while other relevant employees would also get back to work for issuing clearance to the aircraft. Baloch said Cabin crew has also been direct to return to their work. The JAC chief vowed to continue their protest till their demands are met.
According to PIA officials, the airline has operated flights from Islamabad and Gilgit and resumed services from Lahore. “The flight operations are fast returning to normalcy. Workers at Karachi head office are back to work as usual,” claimed Danyal Gilani, spokesman of the national flag carrier, while speaking to the channel.
