Nawaz chairs multi-party conference in Islamabad
PM says high time to take prompt action against militants

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that it was high time for effective implementation of the National Plan of Action on counter-terrorism, without any delay.

In his opening remarks at the meeting of parliamentary leaders held here at the Prime Minister's House, he said that the draft bill for legislation was ready and would soon be tabled in the National Assembly for its passage as early as possible. He said that the ‘Sunset Clause’ will be in effect for two years and expressed confidence that the nation would see its positive results.

The prime minister said there was no room for debate on the Bill in National Assembly, owning to its urgent nature. Besides, he said that the government had also done marathon sessions to deeply examine the draft while the army chief had also done brainstorming on the issue. He welcomed the national leaders for showing unity for national cause by meeting thrice in fifteen days, after the Peshawar incident of killing of school children.

He said that the national leadership was swift enough to finalise the recommendations through a committee within seven days and the party leaders agreed on the 20-point plan on counter-terrorism. He expressed satisfaction that the political and military leadership had taken decisions for the better future of this country.

Nawaz said that he wanted to see Pakistan as a place where no one could harm others and the common man live with peace of mind. He mentioned that several other countries made laws against terrorism and implemented them strictly for successful results. The participants of the meeting offered fateha for the martyr soldiers killed by the Indian border security forces.

Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan briefed the participants of the meeting. The political leaders among others who attended the consultative meeting included Pakistan People’s Party former president Asif Ali Zardari, Syed Khursheed Ahmed, Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Mian Raza Rabbani, Rehman Malik, Farhatullah Babar, Sherry Rehman and Farooq H Naik.

Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Imran Khan, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shafqat Mehmood, Naeemul Haq and Shireen Mazari, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, Achakzai (PKMAP), JI chief Sirajul Haq, ANP's Afrasiab Khattak and Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Ch Shujaat Hussain (PML Q), Mushahid Hussain (PML Q), MQM's Farooq Sattar, Babar Khan Ghouri, Khalid Maqbool and other parties member were also attending the meeting.

Key cabinet members, Khyber Pukhtunkhawa Governor Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi, Khyber Pukhtunkhawa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah were present. DG ISI Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar and ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asim Bajwa were also present.
